Evening of Fun Ends Tragically as Mother Dies
Fatally Hurt in Fall From Auto En Route to Park
An evening of pleasure which Mrs. Mable Lux, 37 years old, 1220 South M. street, had planned for her four children; two boys and two girls, ended in tragedy Saturday night when she fell from the front seat of the automobile in which they all were riding and sustained fatal injuries.
Mrs. Lux, riding in the front seat of an automobile operated by Harry Jones, 50 years old, a roomer at her home, fell from the auto when the door flew open as the car approaced South Twenty-third street, on South L street.
The group was en route to Glen Miller park, according to coroner S. Edgar Bond, who reported that Mrs. Lux had planned to allow the children to visit the playground. The accident occurred about 6:30 o'clock Saturday evening.
Coroner Bond reported that when the door few open Mrs. Lux slipped from the seat and was hit by the door and then fell to the pavement, striking her head.
Refused to go to the hospital.
Mr. Jones, aided by the children, put her back in the automobile and she was taken home. There she was treated by a physician. She refused to be moved to the hospital until Sunday morning when she suffered a severe attack.
Her death occurred at the hospital Sunday night. Coroner Bond said she died of a fractured skull and shock.
A native of Brazil, Mrs. Lux had lived in Richmond most of her life. Survivors include her husband, John; two sons, John and Robert; two daughters, Mary and Patricia, and a sister, Mrs. Edith Caldwell, all of Richmond.
The body was taken to the Unser & Waltermann Funeral home. It is to be removed to Brazil Tuesday morning for services and burial.
