Transferred to Company A, 6th Battalion Virginia Infantry, Local Defense, and elected 1st Lieutenant October 16, 1863. Transferred as 1st Lieutenant to Company D, 2nd Virginia Infantry, Local Defense, September 2, 1864. On account of physical disability he was detailed as mechanic at Tredegar Iron Works, Richmond, Virginia, November 4, 1862, where he appears to have remained to January 20, 1865, and probably served later as mechanic at Augusta, Georgia
