He became assistant county attorney of Taylor County in 1929, and was elected county attorney in 1930, holding his post for two terms. From 1934 to 1944, he practiced law in Abilene as a private attorney, then became first rent attorney for the Office of Price Administration.
He was preceded in death by his father, George S. Browne, and survived by his mother, Mrs. Ida L. Browne of 702 Victoria St., a sister, Mrs. Lester Gorsuch of 417 Elm St., a brother Lloyd S.Browne of 601 Hawthorne St, and an uncle, C.L. Haley of Abilene.

George Browne was killed as a result of a car crash 4 miles East of Abilene, along with Mrs. Clintie Bee Steffens Trigg, of Abilene, who was in the car with him. They were returning to Abilene from a Texas - Oklahoma University game in Dallas when they hit a car with a young couple named Cason with their 4 year old son. The mother was killed instantly and her husband and son were transferred to Hendrick Hospital. Both Mrs. Trigg and Mrs. Cason were killed instantly, but Mr. Browne died later at the hospital.
