Nora Ellen was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Ellis and Laura Emma [Allen] Ellis. She grew up in Ellis and Throckmorton Counties, Texas. She was one of eight children born to A.J. and Emma Ellis. Nora met and married John Martin Gardner in Throckmorton County, Texas on May 8, 1911. She was the mother of four children. Two children died as infants.
