Camp Creek Cemetery
Pvt. John W. Pittard was wounded at Chickamauga, Tennessee and died two weeks later on September 19, 1863. His wife Amanda went by wagon to bring him home from a field hospital and he died in Gwinnett County and was buried on Charles McKinney's farm. This cemetery became a part of the front lawn of a house in Metro Acres subdivision Rockbridge Road, Norcross, Georgia. Many graves and tombstones were later moved to US 29 and are in front of Calvary Baptist Church in Lilburn. There is a marker beside his wife, Amanda's grace which is pictured here along with a bronze plaque for the Confederate War veterans. Note on the marker say he is buried Calvary Baptist Church. However, a search at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery revealed a few graves and some tombstones and markers in a wooded area across the road from the church. These graves were possibly moved when a new highway was built.
