Maj. John Peay Clendenin was born 4 Sep 1839 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY. He was s/o James Moores Clendenin & Eliza Barrow Peay.

He married 1)Emily Scott Hynson d/o William Scott Hynson & Rosalie Virginia Burton 14 Jul 1864 in AR and had issue. 2)Lucy May Curlee d/o John Obadiah Curlee & Elizabeth Angeline Washburn 22 Sep 1887 in AR and had issue.

He served during the Civil War in the CSA and was a Captain, Ast Adj Gen as well.

He died 16 Feb 1909 in Harrison, Boone Co., AR. He was buried Feb 1909 in Rose Hill Cemetery in Harrison, Boone Co., AR.

February 24, 1909

Maj. J.P. Clendenin, one of the prominent citizens of Harrison, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon of last week. He had just reached his business office when he was seized with heart failure, dying soon thereafter.

Deceased was born in Louisville, Kentucky September 4, 1839 and was a soldier of the South and served as Major on the staff of Gen. Joe Shelby.

For a number of years he resided at
Batesville, Independence County and move from there to Harrison to accept the office of register of the US Land Office during Cleveland's second administration and has since resided there. He is survived by a widow and nine
children.

The remains were interred at Harrison.
