Muriel F. Salvador, 82, died in Yuma on Saturday, June 19, 2004. She was born on April 26, 1922 in Haxtun, the daughter of Edward and Addie (Montieth) Monk. In 1928 her family moved to Monte Vista to seek employment. Shortly after they moved to Monte Vista, Edward passed away. Addie, along with five-year-old Muriel and four-year-old Mary Mae, moved back to Haxtun where they lived with Grandma Monteith. In 1930, Addie married Elmer C. "Pat" Monk, a brother of Edward Monk.

Muriel attended all 12 years of school in Haxtun, graduating with the class of 1940. In May of 1940, Pat, Addie and Muriel moved to the Wages community where she met Perk Salvador. The two were married in Julesburg on September 1, 1940. They had three children, Boni, Denny, and Jim. Perk and Muriel lived in the Pleasant Valley community for over 55 years before moving to Yuma.

She was active in many community activities including the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, Ladies Aid, 4-H leader for the Pleasant Valley Princesses, Home Demonstration Club and was a State officer for the Order of Eastern Star.

She was an avid sports enthusiast, and as a young girl played on a Haxtun girls softball team that competed in the state tournament. She played on many local softball teams until she was in her 40s. At the age of 70, she took up golf and played on a league in Haxtun and Yuma. Muriel enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in high school activities.

Perk and Muriel enjoyed many trips together and spent winters in Arizona until health issues prevented them from traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son Jim.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years; daughter Boni and husband Pete Osmus, Wray; son Denny Salvador and wife Susie, Yuma; sister, Mary Mae Ahnstedt and husband Lennie, New Plymouth, Idaho; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Newbanks, Wray, and Lorena Salvador, Oakley Kansas.
