"Mav" passed away Saturday at Promise Hospital after a brief illness.

The daughter of Nathan J. and Elia Foreman, she was a long time residence of the Pear Ridge area of Port Arthur.

She spent her early years at Avery Island and surrounding area of Rynella, in the heartland of Acadiana and within the shadows of the McIlhenney Tabasco tradition. In her teens, the family moved to Port Arthur.

She met her future husband, Melvin and on August 22, 1942, they were married. Before his death in 2002, Melvin and Mavalena had spent six days short of sixty years together. Her greatest joy was caring for, cooking for, and spending time with family, a true reflection of a rich Cajun heritage. She lovingly prepared mouth watering dishes, from gumbo to sweet desserts with the ease of a pro.In her later years, she found time to volunteer for Park Place Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Perhaps the happiest time she had in recent years was a trip to Disney World. Aside from the fact this was the farthest distance ever traveled, she marveled at the diverse scenery along the way. As she cruised the theme park, she dutifully wore her golden Mickey ears, beaming at all the wonder and excitement to be had by everyone.

Survivors include her sons, Wayne and wife Gale, Steve and his wife Lisa, one daughter, Marlayna Mills, eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; her brothers Nathan "Son" Foreman and Edison "Butch" Foreman; a host of nieces, nephews and other family members are left to celebrate her life.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Adolphe Hebert, and David Glen Hebert, brothers, Dalton, John and Howard Foreman, sister Naomie Foreman Broussard and Noelie Foreman Solar.
