Enlisted Aug. 22, 1862.
Mustered Sept. 14, 1862.
Died of disease Nov. 30, 1862, Helena, Ark.

Buried initially at Helena. In 1867 exhumed and moved to Memphis National Cemetery.

The death list of Iowa soldiers at Helena and at other places among the lowlands of Arkansas grew to frightful proportions. A large number returned to their homes with health greatly impaired, some of whom subsequently died of the ailments with which they were afflicted, and many more were never fully restored to health."
