She passed away at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Chase Center.
Born March 5, 1915, in Huntington, she was the daughter of Winfield and Lillie King Dunkin. She was married to Donald E. Freehafer, who preceded in death.
Mrs. Freehafer had been employed as clerk and bookkeeper for the Justice of the Peace Court. She had also been employed by General Telephone and the Guidance Center.
A graduate of Huntington High School, Florence attended Indiana Business College and Patricia Stevens Charm School in Indianapolis.
In her youth, she had studied piano and voice under private tutors. An accomplished pianist, organist and soloist, Florence was soloist for 23 years at the former First Church of Christ, Scientist.
In earlier years she had been active in many organizations, including the Republican Women's Club and the GOP speakers club, YWCA board, League of Women Voters, Toastmasters, American Red Cross board, Cass County Memorial Center board, Indianapolis Symphony Society, Indiana Arts Commission and the Cass County Jail Planning Commission.
Florence was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an ordained deacon and Stephens Minister. From 1989 to 1997, she was the voice of Calvary's "Minute of Inspiration."
Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life.
Surviving are son, Lance (Alice) Freehafer, Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Dawn (Stephen) Roth, Leif (Kathryn) Freehafer, Rhett (Lynnette) Freehafer, and Tristann (Bryan) Graves; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dr. Eric Freehafer; one sister; and one brother.
The Rev. Douglas Mankell will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
