It was one glorious day, February 15, 1918 a son, Mr. Charles Barber Sr. was born to Mr. Will Barber & Mrs. Priscilla Barber in Marks, Quitman County, Mississippi. As a child growing up in Marks Mississippi in 1930. Mr Barber decided to make Jesus his personal Savior at Silent Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Peterson.
In 1939 on Sep 14, Mr. Barber enlisted in the US Navy where he served his country for 22 yrs. Serving in the Korean War & WWII. He received the rank; Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of Mystic Order of the Flying Carpet. He also received a letter from President Dewight D. Eisenhower for the respect, courage & dedication that he had given to his country. In 1961 Mr. Barber retired from the US Navy.
At the age of 35, Charles Barber Sr. married Rosa (aka Rosie) Lee Burnette on Dec 13, 1953. They had 2 sons; Charles Barber, Jr. & Jerome Barber.
Upon retirement from the Navy, Charles moved to Memphis TN. united w/ Pillow St. C.M.E. Church where he served as Superintendent of the Sunday School until his health failed. At the age of 70, Charles passed on Mar 16, 1988.
Mr. Barber leaves to morn his passing his wife Rosie Barber, 2 sons; Charles Jr. of Memphis TN, & Jerome Barber of Dallas TX., 2 daughters -in-law; Mrs. Janice Barber, & Mrs. Doris Jean Barber, 2 siblings; J.D. (Joseph Douglas) Barber & Ms. Dorothy Barber, 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 9 brothers -in-law, 5 sister-in-laws & a host of relatives that will forever miss him.
