OBIT FROM MARSHALL MOUNTAIN WAVE (The Marshall Mountain Wave began publication in 1891)
07 May 1920
Death of an Old and Esteemed Resident
W.J. Garrison, age 67 years, an old and highly esteemed resident of the Martin Box settlement died suddenly at his home of heart failure, Tuesday, May 4, at 4:30 p.m. Deceased had been in failing health for some time, but his death came so sudden and unexpected that it was indeed a sad surprise to his family, and his many friends when they heard of it. Mr. Garrison was a real gentleman of the old school--always courteous and kind to everybody-- and if he ever uttered a harsh word to anyone it has yet to be recorded. He was a very industrious man, frugal in his habits and a firm believer in the wisdom and truth of the teachings of the Almighty. Besides a faithful wife, resident is survived by eight children, Sam, Walter, Ben, Alex and Arthur, and Mrs. John Treadwell, Mrs. J. Horton, and Miss Matilda Garrison. Several grandchildren and other relatives. Internment was in the Treece [now the Wilson Cemetery].
