FORT WORTH - Bernice Banks Howard, 77, retired owner of the Bunny Hutch, died Monday, April 6, 1998, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Steenson and The Rev. Keith Burns will officiate.

Burial: in the Duringer family plot in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation: at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. R. David Newton, 6475 Fortune Rd. Pallbearers: John F. Cranz, George E. Ferguson, William R. Howell, William A. Landreth Jr., R. James Phillips Jr., J. Thomas Roberts, Stephen L. Tatum and Paul K. Tripplehorn.

Honorary pallbearers: Frank A. Bailey Jr., Jack R. Henckels, Kirk Henckels, Eric F. Hyden and Raymond B. Kelly.

Memorials: Fort Worth Zoo.

Bunny Banks Howard was born Nov. 27, 1920, in Fort Worth.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ackert Banks of Pasadena, Calif. Her mother, the former Elizabeth Duringer of Fort Worth, was a member of the pioneer Tarrant County Duringer family.

Bunny's great-grandfather was Alexander French Banks, president of the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railroad and a director of U.S. Steel, Continental Illinois Bank and the Carnegie Corp. Mrs. Howard owned the Bunny Hutch in Ridglea Village. She was a member of The Assembly, Jewel Charity Ball, The Junior League of Fort Worth, Fort Worth Garden Club and a board member of the Fort Worth Zoo. She was also a member of River Crest Country Club.

Bunny attended college at Polytechnic School in Pasadena.

Survivors: Son, Ward Ackert Howard and his wife, Lynne, of Fort Worth; daughter, Kristi Howard Newton and her husband, David, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Leslie, Kelley and Jeffrey Howard and Whitney and Banks Newton; and cousins, Peggy Floore Garret and Charlotte Jones, both of Fort Worth and Duke Banks of Lake Worth, Fla.
