William E. "Bill" Nipper, 87, of Salem, Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at the VA Veterans Care Center after a lengthy illness and is now reunited with his loving wife, Ann, of 56 years. Bill was born on April 9, 1921, to John and Ada Nipper. He was a World War II Veteran, received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, was at the Battle of The Bulge, and Normandy. Bill was a member of the Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, and retired from Singer Furniture and KMart. Bill is predeceased by his parents; sisters, Pauline and Louise; and brother, Okie. He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Lillian Nipper; a loving daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Gene Willis; granddaughter and husband, Kimberly and Vince Haddox; grandson and wife, David and Kelly Nipper; great-grandson, Trenton Haddox; great-granddaughter, Sydney Haddox; sister, Betty Dillon; sister and brotherin-law, June and Russell Hart; and other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel. Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Sherwood Memorial Park. Officiating will be the Rev. Joe Braisted and the Rev. Michael Ennis. Bill's family sincerely appreciates the wonderful care he received at the VA Veterans Care Center since November 7, 2007, especially his nurses, CNAs, and others who cared for him. We will always remember the love, care, and respect showed to him and all the veterans at VVCC.
