Elmer was the ninth of thirteen children of Hugh LaFevre, a furnace laborer and lumber yard worker of Durham Twp., Bucks Co., and Riegelsville, Bucks Co., and Catherine Ann Hammerstone LaFevre.

Elmer married Cora Belle Edinger, and they had nine children: Elmer Edinger "Gimp" in 1913, John H. about 1915, Margaret about 1917, Elizabeth about 1919, Shirley in 1925, Jean Delores in 1929, Joan about 1931, Olive "Bobbie" in 1932 and Terence, whose birthyear is unknown.

He lived in Durham Twp. and Milford, Hunterdon Co. He worked at the paper mill in Milford.
