MAKER OF THE HONAKER RIFLE

Grandson: Everett Miller

James Honaker Died Thursday.

Visiting Son at time of Demise Well Known in Raleigh County, Where He Formerly Lived.

James Honaker died Thursday morning at two o'clock at the home of his son, Attorney T. J. Honaker; and was interred at the family burial ground at Saxon on the following day. The funeral services were conducted by the Reverend H. Whitley of Pittsburg.

Mr. Honaker arrived in the city Saturday to visit his son, Thomas J. Honaker, and although he had been suffering for some time with that dread malady, his demise was a sudden shock to his loved ones, who with him did not realize the seriousness of his condition.

Mr. Honaker was born near the present site of Bramwell, October 6, 1851. His parents, William Crockett and Sara A. Honaker, moved to Saxon and there married and resided untl the death of his wife six years ago.

It was there that James Honaker entered upon his duties as a man and citizen. He chose the trade of gunsmith, and was the maker of the Honaker rifle, which was dear to the boys who hunted in the southern part of the Virginias twenty and thirty years ago, and is even now prized by the owners as a reliable gun.

At Saxon, he met and in 1873 married Miss Mary Virginia Daniel, whose brothers, G. P. and S. J. Daniel, of Marshes and Lester, respectively, are among the leading practicioners of the county.

Of the children born, he is survived by Mrs. B. F. Wriston, Saxon; Mrs. Mathew Eidson, Stone City Kansas; Mrs. C. E. Young, Saxon; Mrs. John Daniel, Done City, Ohio; Mrs. John Starr, Carlye; George J. Honaker, U. S. Army at Fort Keithley, Phillipines and John Honaker, Saxon.

James Honaker was well known in the county where he has a number of friends and relatives, who will mourn the loss of a kind and dutiful man.
