Death of Julius Hulbert - Oak Hill, Sept 19, 1874
Dear Advertiser: I have to relate to you the sad news of the death of Julius Hulbert on the 15th last, aged 66 years. His disease was pleurisy and congestion of the lungs, and his death was very unexpected; he was confined to his bed but a few hours. Mr. Hulbert had long resided on the hill. More than 50 years has his smiling face greeted us, his society cheered us, his genius planned for our benefit, his work made our homes pleasant, while in his own home none can tell the loss it has met with. Sorrow has darkened its windows and the door opens not to the gentle hand whose coming was always welcomed. Our loss is his gain, for the gate to his heavenly home stood "ajar" and opened wide to let his spirit through, where he joins dear children and loved ones gone before, leaving a wife and children greatly bereaved, in tears looking up from the casket, the grave, to where they hope to meet again. His memory will linger long in the hearts of the people, the church and the family, who say, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." A large concourse of friends gathered to pay their last respects, and a very impressive sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Thomas from 1 Cor., 7:29, 30.
"One by one the saints are leaving
For their home in heaven above"
