Albert Ackles, who spent nearly all of his 79 years in Traer, died Sunday of a heart attack. He had been in failing health since an attack of pneumonia in January, 1953. He had been cared for at a Traer convalescent home earlier this year, then when his condition improved, he went to Waterloo to live with his half-sister, Mrs. Guy Hoopes. He had been afflicted by a heart ailment in recent months. His condition last week was such that nursing care was advised, and Albert was moved to a convalescent home in Waterloo. He suffered a fatal heart attack soon after arrival there.
Albert was born October 23, 1874 at Canandaigua, New York a son of William and Mary Ackles. His mother died when he was an infant, and his father remarried. He was 10 years old when he came with his father and stepmother to Traer. He was a tiler many years in the days when the trade was hand work and he labored with a spade until past 70. He never married and lived in his own home on Railroad street for many years. He was a member of the Methodist church for over 50 years, and in that time he hardly ever missed a church service. Until the last year or more, Albert was in church every Sunday, rain or shine. Besides Mrs. Hoopes, he leaves two half-brother, George of Houston, Texas and Fred of Waterloo.
