Adam was the son of Thomas and Barabra (Will) Shattinger and was born in Bavaria, Germany. He married Mary (Kunkel) Shattinger in 1865 in Cincinnati, OH. By 1869, the family, which included a son, Charles F. Shattinger, had relocated to St. Louis.

In St. Louis, Adam and Mary had the following children: Mignon (1873 - 1873), Mignon (1876 - ?) and Oliver (1873 - 1879).

Adam founded what is today the St. Louis-based Shattinger Music Company, however it is no longer owned or manged by the Shattinger family.

Adam died in St. Louis.

Charles Shattinger married my 2bd Great Grandfather's sister Ada Cora (Brown) Shattinger.
