CHADRON - Louis C. Adams, 83, of Chadron, passed away Friday, July 27, 2007 at the Chadron Community Hospital. His graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the Ash Hollow Cemetery in Lewellen, Neb. with Father Neal Nollette officiating. Inurnment will be at Ash Hollow Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team.

A Memorial has been established for the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Chadron. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO BOX 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Louis was born Oct. 16, 1923, near Spencer, Neb. to John and Rose (Panek) Adams. He attended school at Spencer for 12 years graduating in 1941. He then moved to Grand Island and began working in an ammunition depot until March of 1943 when he joined the Army. He was stationed in Ft. Meade, Md., Camp Shelby and others. During his tour of duty he was awarded the Sharpshooter Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. His final tour of duty was at Ft. Ord, Calif. where he was in charge of the post theaters. He was discharged in March of 1946. Lou was a member of the VFW, American Legion and DAV.

Louis married Audrey Hargens July 1, 1949 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Spencer, Neb.

He worked as a Junior Engineer's Assistant for the State of Nebraska, but ill health caused his retirement in 1954. Lou and Audrey moved to Custer, S.D. in 1954 and Lyman, Neb. in 1955 where Lou worked the Sugar Beet Campaign as a tare inspector and in the processing lab. He was an avid rock hound, fishing equipment, and Indian artifact collector. They moved to Arizona in 1992 where they enjoyed the winters with Arlene and Al Hargen, Lee and Jean Cundall and Flo and Les Cunningham.

Lou loved casual clothing and was most often seen in jump suits.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey of 58 years; sisters, Aileen Adams of Fort Collins, Colo., Charlyne Scheinost of Scottsbluff; sister-in-law, Leverne Adams of Bonnie Lake, Wash.; niece, Jacalyn and husband Ken Eis, of Fort Collins, Colo.; nephews, Jeffrey and wife Cindy Scheinost and daughter, Mary Kate of Scottsbluff, and John Adams; and his beloved dog, "Yeller."

Preceding, him in death were his parents John and Rose Adams, brother Jack H. Adams, nephews, David Dieffendefer and Robert Adams and brother-in-law Charles Scheinost.
