Maria N Jones, was born to Powell and Rebecca Cunningham Burkhart, 86 wife of the first Methodist Minister in Rapid City, was buried in Mt View Cemetery Friday afternoon, the funeral rites being in the charge of the Rev Carl H Loocke. The ceremony took place at the Methodist Church
She and her husband came to Rapid City in the spring of 1878 and made their way from Iowa to this then frontier settlement by boat and stage.
Mrs Jones was born April 12, 1850 and was married to Hugh N Jones March 29,1872 in Iowa. They lived in Iowa before coming to Rapid City. In 1882 they moved to Caputa where they homesteaded, he husband died in 1895.
Mrs Jones leaves four daughters, Mrs Tennie Halff, Caputa, Mrs Nettie Payne, Rapid City, Mrs Minnie Peckham Rapid City, Mrs Gladys Sanders Caputa, two sons Arthur Jones Rapid City, and Hubert H Jones Kirby Montana. Also 24 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren, four children preceeded her in death including William H Jones, and Mrse May Ehrler and two infants.
Pallbearers were six grandsons, George F Sanders, Clayton Hart, Henry Payne, Alfred Jones, William Ehrler and Lawrence Jones.
