After arriving in Vietnam Kurt was assigned to a Mortar Platoon of H & S Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
His body wasn't recovered at time of death. His body was repatriated 19 October 2006 and identified 5 August 2008.
Survived by his parents, George E Marie M La Plant and his brothers and sisters, Greg, Richard, Lee, Cheri, Tina, Kay and Candace La PLant all of Lenexa, Kansas.
