Helen Hansen Marsh passed away on June 3, 2005, surrounded by her loving children. Helen was born in Port Arthur, Texas, the first of four children born to Henry and Olga Hansen, Norwegian immigrants who met and married in Brooklyn, New York and settled in the Port Arthur area. Helen graduated from Port Arthur High School as Valedictorian of her class. She continued her education in Cambridge, Massachusetts at Radcliffe Institute of Harvard University, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology. Helen was not only gifted academically, but musically as well. She loved music with a passion and had the rare gift of playing music by ear. While studying anthropology at Radcliffe, Helen also miraculously found time to study piano and organ under the world renowned organist E. Power Biggs and at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Helen dedicated her musical talent to God and served as the organist of St. John's Lutheran Church for nearly forty years. Helen was also a member of the Past Presidents of Symphony Club of Port Arthur. She also lovingly and patiently taught countless children piano in the Port Arthur area, encouraging many to pursue careers in music. Helen married Earl Marsh, Sr. on September 26, 1940, in Port Arthur, Texas and raised four children, Ellen, Earl, Nancy, and Elizabeth. She dedicated her life to her children, supporting them in all their varied educational pursuits and encouraging them all to pursue thier life and career dreams. Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Earl William Marsh, Sr.; her daughter Ellen Marsh Brinkoeter, and her three brothers, Henry Hansen, Carl Hansen, and George Hansen. She is survived by her son, Earl William Marsh, Jr. of Port Arthur; daughter, Nancy Marsh and her husband Scott Nisson of Bakersfield California; daughter, Elizabeth Marsh and her husband William Brett Einhaus of Austin, Texas; a grandson, Matthew Philip Nisson of Bakersfield, California; a step-granddaughter, Lori Leigh Einhaus Martin of Dallas, and countless friends throughout the world.
