Obituary, Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home (Newport, NH), Nov 2008:

Newport, NH: Norman Kerry Bentley, 77, of Springfield Road passed away at the New London Hospital, November 5, 2008, following a long decline in health.

Norman was born in Brewer, ME, the son of the late Norman Robert and Marion Fuller (Eaton) Bentley. He was raised and educated in Sutton, NH, attended New London High School and worked for the Sutton Volunteer Fire Dept for 2 years. Norman then entered the U.S. Army in 1949 and fought for his country during the Korean War Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1952. He achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant with the 3rd Infantry, 14th Field Artillery as a Forward Observer with the Special Forces-Cobra Team. Norman was a distinguished member of the Honor Guard to the Supreme Commander of the Far East, with his job being the personal bodyguard to the Five Star General Mark Clark. Upon return to the states Norman met and married Muriel Elise Severance on August 20, 1955 and they shared 49 years together until her death on March 14, 2004. Norman was a part-time officer for the Newport Police and Fire Departments and was employed with Public Service of NH for 34 years, retiring in 1987 as a Master Lineman. He was a past member of several local organizations including the American Legion, VFW, Forrester's Club and the Newport Moose Club where he served as "Governor." Norman loved to cook for anybody and everybody, and could keep them entertained by his love of the art of conversation. He was very proud of his Scottish Heritage and loved to sail on the ocean at every opportunity. Norman was also considered the embodiment of Christian Charity by always helping anyone in need and never asking for anything in return.
