Blanche Ellen Meriwether Locke, 88, of Fort Smith died Nov. 8, 2008, in Fort Smith. She was born Sept. 30, 1920, in LaCenter, Ky., to Bernard and Blanche Meriwether. She was a resident of Fort Smith for over 55 years and a longtime member of East Side Baptist Church. She graduated from both the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and the Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock. During her career as a teacher she taught preschool, kindergarten and special needs students. She also taught Sunday school for over 50 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Moore and Ricky of Maumelle, Paulette Locke Johnson and Mike of Fayetteville; son, George Locke and Stevie of Fort Smith; her twin sister, Sara "Lil" Meriwether of LaJolla, Calif.; four grandchildren, Paul Moore, Sara Moore, Leslie Reese and Brian Stouffer; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the East Side Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
