His daughters didn't remember his year of birth or death, so during the late 1980's they purchased a stone and guessed at his dates, which are wrong.

Although his daughters spelled his name as Allah, the family Bible spells it as Alah. On his program from the Britt Lyceum Bureau, Lincoln, Neb., it is spelled Alvah.

Alva Green was born in Scipio, Indiana, Oct. 1st 1876 (sic). He spent his boyhood and early manhood days in Scipio, Ind., and for a number of years taught school in Jennings County Indiana, after which he attended college at Valparasio, Ind., Ada, Ohio and Hartville Ind.

After completing his college education he traveled for fiteen years as a Lyceum and Chautauqua entertainer.

On July 1st 1909, he was married to Adelaide Lyman. In the year 1916 he left the Lyceum Platform and located in McDonald, Kansas where he was cashier of the McDonald State Bank.

In 1921 he removed to Denver, Colorado, where he was State Agent for the Common Wealth Insurance Co

A year later he returned to McDonald where he remained until 1924, when he went into the Insurances business in which he remained until his death at Atwood, Kansas, January 21st, 1927 aged 50 years, 3 months and 20 days.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Scipio, Indiana and transferred his membership to the Federated Church of McDonald.

He was made a Mason at Crotherville Indiana and after affiliated with the Masonic Lodge at McDonald, Kansas and was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of Scipio Indiana.

The relatives remaining to mourn his departure are the widow, Adelaide Green, two daughters, Rachel and Ruth, two brothers, Guy L. Green, of Bridgeport, Nebraska and Charles T. Green of Scipio, Indiana, and a sister, Mrs. George Waughtel of Scipio Indiana.

During the many years of his successful career as a Public Entertainer, Mr. Green strove to give his listeners an entertainment that was not only entertaining but was also of great educational and moral worth to them.

We at McDonald always found Mr. Green willing to do his best in very way to promote the welfare of our citizens not only in a Civic way but in an educational and moral way, and in fact owing to his efforts the churches were consolidated and our Federated Church was organized, of which he was always an active member and during his superintendence of the Sunday School it grew from a mere handful until the present church building was filled.

In the passing years of Alah Green our town, our schools, our churches and our business and social lives will miss his precepts and example and in the passing years many tributes to his memory will be passed.

I cannot say, and will not say
That he is dead. He is just away
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand.
He has wandered into an unknown land,
And left us dreaming, how very fair
It needs must be, since he lingers there.
And you - O you, who the wildest yearn
For the old-time step and the glad return,
Think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of There, as the love of Here.
Think of him still, as the same I say:
He is not dead: he is just away. -- James Whitcomb Riley

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J.S. Coppoc, were held at the Federated church (sic) Sunday, January 23. Services at the grave were conducted by McDonald A.F. and A.M. Interment was in the McDonald cemetery.

Card of Thanks

We wish to thank all the kind friends who assisted during the death and burial of our husband, father and brother, Alah Green and for the many kindness extended to him during his long sicknes (sic).

We wish especially to thank the Masonic Order, the service of Bro. Coppoc, the musicians and for the beautiful floral tributes. -- Mrs. Adelaide Green, Ruth and Rachel Green, Mrs. Agnes Waughtel.
