Shorty Bass Dies, Rites Held Today

Funeral services for Eddie L. (Shorty) Bass, 91, were held at 2 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church at Kirkland, with Rev. Tom Pierce, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Kirkland Cemetery under the direction of Newberry Funeral Home.

Mr. Bass died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in a local nursing home following a brief illness.

Born Nov. 26, 1886 in Bullard, Tex., Mr. Bass moved to Kirkland in 1916 from Bowie. After serving in the U.S. Army in World War I, he returned to Kirkland where he resided until 1968, at which time he moved to Childress. He was a member of American Legion Post 65 and the First Baptist Church in Kirkland.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. H.G. Sides of Kirkland, Mrs. R.M. Howard of Palestine, and Mrs. Lola Sturgis of Tularosa, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bill Prentice, Eddie Harp, Sam Pierce, Dale Martin, Ken Harris, and Arthur Burkhalter.

She [sic] was born Nov. 26, 1886, at Bullard, Texas, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kirkland and American Legion Post 65 in Childress. He was a veteran of World War I and a longtime resident of Childress.

Survivors include three sisters, H.G. Sides of Kirkland, Mrs. R.M. Howard of Palestine, Texas, and Mrs. Lola Sturgis of Tularosa, N.M.
