On this 9th Nov 1850 personally appeared before me Alfred Fought, JP, duly authorized to administer oaths for Wirt Co., VA, Wilson BAILESS aged 60 years a resident of Wirt Co., VA, who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Wilson BAILESS who was a 1st Corporal in the company commanded by Captain William Prince in the 1st Regiment of Virginia Militia commanded by Col. John Connell in the War with Great Britain declared by the US on 18 Jun 1812, that he volunteered at Parkersburg, VA on about the 13th of Sep 1812 for the term of six months and continued actual service in said war for the term of six months and was honorably discharged at Fort Meigs? on the 29th Mar 1813 on account of expiration of term of service as well appear by his original certification discharge herewith presented. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the act granting bounty lands to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military services of the US passed Sep 28, 1850. On this 5th day of April 1855 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace with and for the county and state afforesaid, Wilson BAILESS, aged 65 years and a resident Wirt Co., VA who being duly sworn according to law declares that he is the identical Wilson BAILESS who was a Corporal in the Company commanded by Captain William Prince in the ____ regiment of Virginia Militia commanded by Col. Cornell in the war with Great Britian declared by the US on the 18th June 1812 for the term of 6 months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of six months that he has here to fore made application for bounty land under the act of Sep 28th 1850 and received a land warrant No. _____ for 80 acres which he has since legally disposed of and cannot now return. He also refer to his former application for further evidence of his military services now in file in the pension office at Washington. He made this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional county land to which he may be entitled under the act of approved the 30th day of Mar 1855. Note: The Act it speaks of being passed on March 3, 1855 was the latest act of Congress at that time, but I'm not sure that there was anything in it containing provisions to give land or extra land to those completing military service. Essentially, this is just in here so if there were any such provisions, he could lawfully claim that land. Source: Joel Gordon, 2008

The witnesses are Thomas Foster and William A. Foutty. The only Thomas Foster in Wirt County in the 1850 census was a 16 year old enumerated on the page before Wilson (but right after Wilson, Jr.). In 1855 he would have been 21, making him of age to give an oath. There are four William Fouttys listed in the 1850 census. The only one of Wilson's age was listed about 3 pages before Wilson, living with an Adam Deem with another William Foutty (I'm going to assume a son). William A. Foutty was married to Harriet Ann Baileys, a daughter of Wilson Bailess' son Esais Baileys.

Jackson Co., OH, on this 10th Apr 1871 personally appeared before me Judge of the Probate Court within said county for Wilson BAILEYS aged 85 years, a resident of Jackson Co., OH, who being duly sworn declares that he is married and his wife's name is Sarah MACKISON to whom he married in Jackson Co., OH on 17 Mar 1868 and that he served 6 months in the military service of the US in the War of 1812; and that he is the identical Wilson BAILEYS, Corporal, in Captain William Prince's Company, 1st Regiment of the Virginia Brigade in September 1812 and discharged 30th Mar 1813; that he has received a land warrant for 160 acres not known by his allotment in Parkersburg W. Service for 60 days shown as follows: Report from 3rd Auditor shows that Wilson BAILISS served in Capt. William Prince's Company, VA Militia from Sep 16th 1812 to April 12th 1813. Length of service 209 days.
Claimant declares he is not a pensioner under any previous act. Name, not on list of pensioners. Loyalty, claimants averment and testimony of Lewis, Lock & Thomas N. Leach.
