Dr. Leo Beebe was the son of Elmer and Nancy Javner Beebe. He married Emmajean Pratt on March 14, 1942 in Rockford, Illinois. She survives.

He opened his optometric practice in Fowler, Indiana in May of 1946, becoming the first optometrist to practice in Benton County. During his practice he initiated the first eye-screening program in Benton County to prevent blindness in preschool age children with undetected disease. He remained the county's sole practitioner until his retirement in 1986.

He was a charter member of the Tecumseh Optometric Society and a lifetime member of the Indiana Optometric Association.

He was an active contributor to civic endeavors throughout his lifetime. He served on the executive committee of the Greater Lafayette Council of Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Fowler Chamber of Commerce. He had been a member of Fowler United Methodist Church since 1946; was a member of the Fowler Rotary Club for 50 years, serving as president in 1957 and 1958, served on numerous committees and was awarded the Paul Harris award. He initiated different service programs including the collection of used eyeglasses for the needy and the highway clean-up program benefiting the town. One of his most proud Rotary accomplishments was 46 years of perfect attendance.

Also surviving with his wife are two sons, Kerry Beebe (wife: Mary) and Dr. Walter Beebe, M.D. (wife: Vickie) five grandchildren, Lindsey Bridges, Ryan, Alexander, Adam and Nathaniel.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Weber and Alma Milligan and 2 brothers, Dr. Edmer Beebe, M.D. and Dr. Clarence Beebe, D.D.S.
