I saw your comments on the picture of the headstone. The 1868 date of death would be correct according to the information I have included below.
Nathaniel Legg was married to Nancy in the 1850 census and had at least 4 children by her, and then sometime before 1866 married Mary A. and had at least 5 children by her in the 1880 census. Included in the census was Nathaniel's
step son James E. Smith. This is possibly Mary's child by a previous marriage.
