CUMBERLAND — Ray W. Kennell, 86, of Cumberland, formerly of Kennells Mill, passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at WMHS-Lions Manor.

Born March 25, 1922, in Wellersburg, Pa., he was a son of the late Albert and Clue (Troutman) Kennell. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Kerr Kennell; and sisters, Linda Kennell, Alice Booth and Dolly Bishop.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary F. (McKensie) Kennell, whom he married June 4, 1942; three sons, Charles Kennell and wife Anna, of Ellerslie, Ed Kennell and wife Jennifer, of LaVale, and Ben Kennell and wife Tammy, of Kennells Mill; two daughters, Connie Aman and husband Rick, of Hyndman, and Annette Holler, of Kennells Mill; a brother, Jim Kennell, of Wellersburg; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kennell served was a US Army veteran who served during World War II. He was a Tech Sgt. in 236th Ordnance Ammunition Company, serving in Italy, France and North Africa. He also participated in the invasion of Salerno.

He was a construction worker with the Local Labors Union and the Hazelwood Construction Company. He was also a member of the Kennells Mill Sportsman's Club.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, Pa., on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Huffman officiating.

Burial will follow in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, with military honors by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
