Henrietta was the sixth child of Henry Evans and Jane Darlington. At age 36, on February 7, 1891 she married 37 year old, Joseph Emley Borden lately of Yeadon Delaware County on the outskirts of Philadelphia. They had two children, their first child Richard was stillborn on August 25, 1892, their only other child was a girl they named Lavinia Cook Borden, she was born at their home in Yeadon, Delaware County, on April 25, 1894.
