Born: 1 Mar 1924, The Grove, Coryell, Texas.
Died: 6pm, 20 Feb 1979, in his Sam Rayburn Lake home. He suffered several health ailments resulting from diabetes.
Buried: Houston National Cemetery, Section B Grave # 4224, Houston, Harris Co, Texas.
Married: 3 Sept 1943, to Alpha Lee Blanchard at the Church of Christ, Waco, McLennan Co, Texas.

Joe entered the U.S. Air Corps as a private on 18 Feb 1941 at Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas. He served in the Air Force for 10 years before transferring to the U.S. Army. During World War II, he spent eighteen months serving in the China Burma India Theater of Operations. He served in the 4th Army as Recruiting Officer, Postal Officer (in Germany), Military Tactics Instructor at Rice University in Houston and the University of Houston. He accepted Disability Retirement 5 Jul 1960 with active rank as First Lieutenant and Captain in the Reserve. He later studied and became an audiologist - remained in that field of work until final retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Alpha Lee, two sons, Benny Dwight and Sidney Lynn, one grandson, Christopher Allen Holcomb, and two great granddaughters, Catherine Anastasia and Sarah Anne Holcomb.

Joe was a member of the Church of Christ, Jasper, Texas, and Maple Lodge # 791, Flat, Texas.

Both sons reside in Houston and work with Engineering Firms.
Christopher also resides in Houston and is a printer.
