Clyde was born to L. C. & Viola (Birdsell) Bowles, near Mayview, KS. He attended Jewell high school & Kansas State Agriculture College in Manhattan, KS.
On Dec. 18, 1907, he was united in marriage to Hattie M. Coffield. To this union three children were born - Harold, Ruby & Doyle.
They built a home one mile North & three quarters
west of Mayview. This community has always been their home.
Clyde suffered a tragic accident at his home Sunday evening. He was starting his tractor, & it had been left in gear, & as the engine started, the heavy machine lunged forward, knocking Clyde to the ground & ran over him. The Dr. & neighbors were called & he was taken to the Community Hospital in Beloit, KS. He suffered a fractured pelvus, fractured right arm & internal injuries. His death occurred a few hours later.
