..He was the 3rd son and the 6th child of Adam Amaziah Nichols and Barbara Cancellor Nichols.
..He joined the Hiawassee Rangers as a private on July 4th, 1862. This Towns County Company later became Company E of the 52th Regiment Georgia, C.S.A. The Regiment was part of the July 4th, 1863 surrender at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The unit was exchanged in September 1863 and reformed to serve in the Army of Tennessee, U.S.A. for the remainder of the war. He was furloughed on April 26, 1865.
..Amzi owned a farm on Byer's Creek in the western portion of what is now Towns County, Georgia.
..He was married twice. He married 1st, in Union County, Georgia, on May 29, 1853 or 1854, Mary McCollum. They had 8 children. He married 2nd in Towns County, Georgia, on October 26th, 1894, Nancy Jane Thompson. They had 1 child.
