60th Wedding Anniversary
Olivet – Bernard L. and Velma E. Coplin of Olivet will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the home of Pete and Denise Fullenwider at 3621 W. Spicerville, Olivet.

The couple's children are Paul Coplin of Middlebury, Ind,. and John Coplin of Battle Creek. A son, Velbern, died in 1953. The couple have nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Bernard Coplin and the former Velma Whittington were married Dec. 6, 1930, in Angola, Ind.

He worked at Battle Creed Farm Bureau and retired from Sullivan's Mild Product. She was a librarian at Willard Library.

Obituary
Bernard L. Coplin, 88, of Middlebury, Ind., formerly of Olivet, died July 15, 1996, at the Carriage Manor Nursing Home, Goshen, Ind., after a long illness.

Mr. Coplin was born Nov. 4, 1907, in Olivet, the son of Leonard and Edna (Lewis) Coplin. He was a graduate of Olivet High School, attended Michigan State College, and served as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. He had been the manager of the Battle Creek Farm Bureau for 28 years and later worked for Sullivan's Milk Products (later Ashley Dairy) in Battle Creek for 12 years, from which he retired in 1961.

He and his wife moved from Olivet in 1993 to be near their son, Paul, and nephew, Dean Whittington, both of Middlebury, Ind.

He retained membership in the Ainger Bible Church, Olivet, sang in a group called the Good Will Four, and had served as a singer and music director with the former Four Gospel Church, Battle Creek.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Velma (Whittington); two sons, Paul (Dorothy) of Middlebury and John (Joan) of Battle Creek; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Velburn in 1953, and one sister, Ila Swain in 1972.

Services were July 18 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastors John Benham and Paul DelMark officiating. Interment was in the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation.
