MENTOR- Maynard J. Page, founder of Page Roofing Co., and co-founder of P & M supply Co., both of Willoughby died Sunday morning in Lake county Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient there for one week. Death followed a long illness with Emphysema.
Born Jan. 24, 1896, in Waite Hill he had lived most his life in the Mentor- Willoughby area. His home for the past eight months was at Acacia Ave.
A graduate of Willoughby High School in 1913, Mr. Page attended Case School of Applied Science in Cleveland.
Following his junior year there he joined the 112th Engineers in World War I and served in France.
In 1936 he founded the Page Roofing Co., which existed until he retired in 1960. At the same time he was co-founder of P & M Supply Co., which is now operated by his son, thomas H. Page.
For 10 years prior to moving to Acacia Ave., he lived in Florida where he was active in shuffleboard and a member of Mirror Lake Shuffleboard Club. He was Florida State singles and doubles champion and won the national double championship.
He won many major Ohio tournaments including the Canton Expert Division which wa played in conjunction with the opening of the Football Hall of Fame.
Mr. Page was a member and past president of Carpenter's Local 404 of Mentor; a member of American Legion Palmer Post 214 of Willoughby and member and past commander of VFW Post 3334 of Willoughby.
He was also a member of Pinellis Park Barracks 367 of Florida; the 37th Division Veterans Association of Florida, Florida West Coast Chapter , and served as 1st Lt. In the National Guard when it was in Willoughby.
Surviving are his widow, the former Helen Hughes; a daughter, Mrs. David (Nancy) Wright of Mentor; a son Thomas H. of Mentor; eight grandchildren and a brother Roland F. Page of Mentor and Bradenton, FL.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Brunner Funeral Home, The Rev. J. G. Moody of Mentor United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mentor Cemetery.
