CYRIL SPENCER
FUneral services for Cyril Spencer were held Saturday at the United Church of Christ in Spearfish. The Rev. Samuel Cushing, pastor of the United Church of Christ of Belle Fourche, officiated. Burial was in the Little Danish Lutheran Cemetery near St. Onge, under the direction of the Fidler Funeral Chapel of Spearfish.
Memorials have been established for the United Church of Christ, the South Dakota Lung Association and the Spearfish Senior Citizen Center.
Cyril Burdette Spencer was born in Longmont, Colo., Jan. 9, 1903, the son of Frank and Estella (Harter) Spencer. He grew up in Colorado and moved with his parents to Nisland, in 1918 where he graduated from Nisland High School. He was married to the former Mabel Matthesen June 18, 1934 in the manse of the First Presbyterian Church in Rapid City, by the Rev. Walz. After their marriage they lived in Rapid City for one year and then moved to a farm which they had purchased near Nisland. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer moved to Spearfish in 1964. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Paint and Palette Club and the Senior Citizen Band. He entered Lookout Memorial Hospital Dec. 22 and died there Dec. 24.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel of Spearfish; a daughter, Mary Alice Spencer, a son-in-law Brent Berger and a grandson, Nicholas Spencer-Berger, all of Brooking; a sister, Tessa Hine of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two brothers, Elmer Spencer of Greeley, Colo., and Harold Spencer of Nisland.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie Spencer, Alvis Murray and Maude McKim and two brothers, Clark and Albert Spencer.
