George is the son of Richard Pope Helm and Johanny Eleanor Smith. He was born in Fauquier County, Virginia. Moved to Carroll County, Missouri in 1859 at the age of 2. He married Ermina (Minnie) Standley in Carroll County, Missouri on January 22, 1882. They left Carroll County by 1900 as they are found in Indian Territory in Payne County (Creek Nation) and by 1910 they are in Curry County, New Mexico. By the time WW1 broke out they were in Guadalupe County, New Mexico in Santa Rosa. They remained their until they died. Census records show that they had 10 children, with five reaching maturity.
