John H. Foley was born in 1802 in Kentucky and died Dec., 1857 at Boonville, Brazos County, Texas. He married Margaret "Peggy" Evetts, daughter of Samuel Givens Evetts and Susannah Haynie. She was born in 1808 in Smith County, Tennessee and died Oct. 1875 in Boonville, Brazos County, Texas. John and Margaret were the parents of Arthuisa Jane, Susan Ann, John C., Margaret V., Josephine E., Harvey, Georgia Ann, and William.

John and Margaret were parents-in-laws of Harvey Mitchell who married their daughter, Arthusia Jane. John and Harvey Mitchell were very close friends. John Foley was one of the signers of the petition in 1841 to form a new county from a portion of Robertson County initially called Navasota County but about one year later renamed Brazos County.
