He was born Dec. 22, 1925, in rural Maynard, son of Harold and Nodah Cue Hurd. He married Irene Harriet Buenneke on Aug. 8, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maynard. She died Nov. 14, 2006.
He graduated from Maynard High School in 1944. He worked at the Maynard Co-op Creamery and worked as a line forman for Contel Telephone Co. of Fayette. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maynard.
Survived by: two daughters, Maurene (Tom) Arlington of Casco, Mich., and Barbara (Curtis) Orr of Maynard; two sons, James (Rita) of Decorah and George (Debra) of West Union; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence of Westgate and David of Maynard; and two sisters, LaRayne (Raymond) Mills of Maynard and Brenda Earles of Broken Arrow, Okla.
Preceded in death by: a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with burial in Long Grove Cemetery, both in Maynard. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Maynard, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the Maynard Fire Department and Maynard First Responders.
