A native of Milford, Texas and a graduate of Austin College in Sherman, Texas, C.D. Morrel moved to Post in 1909. A prominent business and civic leader, he was an original staff member of the First National Bank of Post and served as director and vice president for 25 years. He helped organize the Co-op Gin at Graham Chapel and helped organize and direct the Co-op Oil Mill in Lubbock. After his years of service with the bank in Post, he became business manager of the Slaughter Ranch. Morrel was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.

He married Johnnie Mae Shepherd of Snyder, Texas on December 21, 1910. She preceded him in death in 1961. Their only child, Louise Morrel Wharton of Tahoka, Texas, also preceded him in death in 1979.

He married Kate Thomas of Throckmorton, Texas on July 9, 1965. She died on May 4, 1980.

His granddaughter, Ann Wharton House, died on October 28, 1980. Great grandchildren are Elizabeth Ann House, James Stuart House, and Carolyn Louise House McNicholl.
