FUNERAL ON SATURDAY

Funeral services for First Lieut. Carl. H. Dorschel, who was killed in action in France, Aug. 16, 1944, will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sixth and Jackson Streets, with the Rev. Sterling F. Bashore, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Lieutenant Dorschel, who served with Company "C," 141st Infantry, was the son of Charles and Emma Pieplow Dorschel, 1103 West Fifth Street. His mother was the organizer and first president of the Gold Star Mothers of Delaware, and is a member of Unit 1, Mothers of World War II.

Born in Wilmington July 11, 1913, Lieutenant Dorschel attended school here and before entering the service he was in the metal roofing business with his father. He was a member of Eden Lodge, No. 34, I. O. O. F.; Christine Encampment, No. 12, I. O. O. F., and Zion Lutheran Church. He was unmarried. He is survived by his parents and two aunts, Mrs. Furman G. Cole of Atlantic City, N. J., and Miss Mary Dorschel of Wilmington.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Carl H. Dorschel (ASN: 0-1046417), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy, in action against enemy forces on 1 June 1944. First Lieutenant Dorschel's intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
