Newera Martina Allred Blain, arrived on 1 January 1858 and was so named to honor the fact she was born on New Year's Day, in essence, the first day of a new era in time. Newera is the daughter of Reddick Newton Allred (1822-1905) and Lucy H. Hoyt Allred (1824-1907).

Newera was the third of their five children, having an elder brother, Redick, and sister Avelia, and a younger sister, Jannette, and brother, Henry.

Newera married Joseph Blain (24 May 1852 - 12 December 1941) in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah on 3 January 1876. To them was born eight children, three daughters and five sons, Lucy Isabell Hansen, Joseph Delos Blain, Orson Blain, Grace Nielsen, Tina Amilla Blain, Frank Blain, Guy Blain, and Alden Blain.
