Clark Sauls (Marisa) of Enid, Oklahoma and Captain Marshall (Julie)_Sauls of Glen Rose, Texas; one step-daughter, Sandi Gaspard of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Brande Sanson of Keller, Texas, Emily Kefler of Evergreen, Colorado, Hunter Sauls of Houston, Texas, and Midn 3/C Clay Sauls of Annapolis, Maryland; one step-grandson, Eric Callahan of Gulfport, Mississippi.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Dousay Sauls.

Dr. Sauls was born in New Orleans on June 16, 1925 and grew up in Arcola. After graduation from Amite High School he studied briefly at Southeastern in Hammond before joining the Navy. During World War II, he served aboard the USS San Bernardino County (LST-1110) from its commissioning throughout the South Pacific and Japan. Returning from the war, he attended LSU Medical School in New Orleans and following graduation in 1950, he trained at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans and Huey P. Long Hospital in Pineville. He then practiced briefly in Belzoni, Mississippi before establishing a 17 year practice in Zwolle. His final medical practice was here in DeRidder, where he retired in 2000. During much of that time he served as an FAA Aviation Medical Examiner and was a licensed private pilot.

Reflecting on fifty years of successful family practice, he noted that he thoroughly enjoyed his career and "never had a dull day." He loved helping people and counted among his greatest joys the medical mission trips to Honduras undertaken in later years with Dr. Henry Carter.

Dr. Sauls was an active deacon of the First Baptist Church and also served as Director of the Adult II Sunday School Department there. He remained involved in and supportive of the church's new building project. Throughout life, his relationship with and witness for the Lord Jesus Christ was of paramount importance.

Dr. Sauls was also keenly interested in politics at all levels and was particularly committed to the growth and development of his community. At one time he served on the Beauregard Regional Airport Board and more recently lobbied for a bypass around DeRidder. He was a member of the Beauregard-Vernon Sunrise Rotary Club and multi-Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a past member and president of the Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed travel, both throughout America and abroad, visiting several countries in recent years. Most of all, he enjoyed visiting family and friends.

Dr. Sauls will be greatly missed by these loved ones and his signature smile will likely always be remembered by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of DeRidder building fund.
