GILMORE - Harold E. "Barney" Barbour, 79, of 15227 New Georges Creek Road, Gilmore, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 23, 1918, in Gilmore, he was the son of the late Ralph Barbour and Jannie (Muir) Barbour. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Melvin Barber; and one sister, Pearl Willetts.
Mr. Barbour was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and an active member of the Gilmore Civic Improvement Club. He retired from the Celanese Corp. with 48 years of service. He attended the Midland United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel (Moore) Barbour; one daughter, Earlene (Barbour) Cutter and husband Ray, Midland; five sisters, Anna Magruder, Cumberland, Erma Wagoner, North Carolina, Ernestine Owens, Cumberland, Jeanette Barber, Gilmore, Charlotte Fisher and special friend Firn Hill, St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Tammy Michelle Cutter and R. Jeffrey Cutter.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lawrence Frye officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Pallbearers will be Dick Duckworth, Jim Walker, Eric Campbell, Mark MacDonald, Dick Jenkins, Glendale Howell and John Baker.
