Injuries Prove Fatal to Woman Near Larkinburg
Injuries received when the wheels of a truck ran over her head and shoulders proved fatal to Mrs. Elizabeth Brashear, wife of Fred Brashear, a farmer living southwest of Larkinburg, early Sunday morning. Mrs. Brashear died in an ambulance en route from her home to a Topeka hospital.
The accident occurred when Mrs. Brashear, who with her husband and son, Lyman, was returning from a dance held near Muscotah in the truck driven by Virgil Scheid, also a farmer southwest of Larkinburg. There were several other persons on the truck, including Mr. Scheid’s family. On nearing the Brashear home, Scheid drove past the lane leading to the house. Just as the truck stopped, Mrs. Brashear jumped from the truck with her husband and son. In jumping, she fell underneath the truck, and Scheid, not knowing the members of the party had alighted, started to back the truck back to the lane. Mrs. Brashear’s head and shoulders were caught under the wheels of the truck before Scheid realized what had happened.
Mrs. Brashear was conscious for nearly an hour after the accident, which occurred about 3 o’clock Sunday morning. She exonerated anyone but herself of any blame for the accident. She lapsed into unconsciousness shortly after 4 o’clock. A physician, who was called, ordered an ambulance and while en route to a Topeka hospital, she died.
Mrs. Brashear was about 40 years old. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Bernice and Ruth Brashear, and one son, Lyman. Several brothers and sisters also survive. The Brashear family had lived in the Larkinburg neighborhood for the last three years. They had moved there from southeast Kansas. They made many friends, and Mrs. Brashear was well known in that neighborhood, which has been greatly shocked by the accident.
Virgil Scheid is also a well known farmer in that community. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Scheid of near Larkinburg, who were on the truck at the time of the accident.
Funeral arrangements have not been made. The body was taken to an undertaking establishment at Holton following her death.
