GERALD J. PROM
Funeral for retired local entrepreneur Gerald J. Prom will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home. Mr. Prom died of a heart attack Friday in a Vancouver hospital. He was 66.
Mr. Prom was born in Harvey, N.D., on Sept. 25, 1922, and had lived in Vancouver since 1937. Most recently, he was an owner of what was the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad in Battle Ground. Mr. Prom was also a former owner of what was Prom Industries, a door core manufacturer in Vancouver. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
Mr. Prom volunteered for the Navy during World War II as a fighter pilot, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with four gold stars. He flew 20 missions off the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Chenango in the Pacific. He later worked as a pilot for United Airlines, Overseas National Airways and an executive air service.
Surviving are his sons, Anthony of Vancouver and Jeffrey of Aberdeen, Wash.; daughters, Mary Hansen of Little Rock, Ark., Kathy Palmer of Charlottesville, Va., and K. Robin McDaniel of Regina, N.M.; brother, Richard of Leesburg, Va.; and five grandchildren.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield.
