Born June 26, 1917, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Myrtle Lee Allison. She attended Elmhurst High School and worked at General Electric Company. She married George R. Welch on Nov. 27, 1938.
She was happy to be a stay at home Mom. She was a 50 year member of Waynedale United Methodist church and was an active member of the Women's Society for several years. She was also a 50 year member of the Receptive Home Ec. Club and a member of the Waynedale Order of the Eastern Star 600. She volunteered at Parkview Hospital through The White Cross Guild. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, family parties, baking, knitting, reading and playing cards with her lady friends.

Surviving are two children, Meridith (Allen) Poorman of Roanoke and Georgia (Dannie) Shearer of Stroh, Ind.; five grandsons, Brent Poorman of Fort Wayne, Brad Poorman of Angola, Joshua Shearer of Roanoke, Zach Shearer of Stroh and Andrew Shearer of Stroh; one granddaughter, Danielle Shearer Rowland of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George on April 13, 1987. She was one of 10 siblings who all preceded her in death. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 at Elzey Patterson Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010. Burial in Prairie Grove Cemetery.
