Joseph R. Garwood on of the oldest residents of Clark County, died Wednesday at the home of his son Jay in Darwin Township after a long illness, aged 88 years. Funeral services were held Friday at Craig's Chapel, conducted by Elder R. Russell; interment in the Marshall Cemetery.

Mr. Garwood was born June 1, 1823, and when quite small came to Illinois with his parents settling near Newton. Later he came to Clark County where he has since resided. January 8, 1845, he married Hannah Price who died in 1895. To them were born eight children: Edward, Sarah H., Martha J., Thomas J.., Levi P., William Burns, Joseph E., and Elsie Jeannette, all of whom are living except Sarah who died in 1871. Mr. Garwood was a member of the Christian Church.

if this is Hannah Garwood's husband sh may be buried here as well there is markings on other side but real hard to read.
